Why Cambodia Was on Our 2025 Travel Map
In 2024, we decided to expand our destinations across Asia. Cambodia immediately made the shortlist. I wanted a journey that captured the country’s essence, history, and spirit, and began curating a trip that would go beyond the typical tourist experience.
By March 2025, we brought our first group of clients to Cambodia, and it was unforgettable. While many destinations impress with landscapes and architecture, Cambodia’s people left the deepest impression on me. Despite challenges, their warmth, resilience, and optimism are extraordinary. The Cambodian pride in their land and ancestors is palpable, creating a cultural richness that transcends sightseeing.
Immersed in the Heart of Siem Reap
Our journey focused on Siem Reap, a region steeped in centuries of history. Angkor Wat, built in the 12th century, is the world’s largest religious monument and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Words barely do it justice. Walking through its temples and corridors evokes awe, reverence, and wonder.
Beyond Angkor Wat, our tour connected us with the legacy of the Khmer Empire (9th to 15th century). From elegant Classical Apsara dance performances to traditional silk weaving, shadow puppetry, and music, we experienced Cambodia’s cultural heartbeat firsthand. Every interaction, every performance, felt personal, authentic, and deeply moving.
Flavors That Tell a Story
Cambodia’s hospitality shines through its cuisine. We savored dishes that reflected both history and local flavors:
- Amok trey – coconut fish curry infused with local spices
- Bai sach chrouk – tender grilled pork with rice
- Nom banh chok – refreshing Khmer rice noodles
Each meal was an opportunity to connect with culture, meet local chefs, and share stories that went beyond the plate.
Natural Beauty That Stuns
Cambodia isn’t just temples and towns, it’s a land of breathtaking landscapes. From lush jungles and remote mountain ranges to floating villages on Tonlé Sap Lake, nature moves to a gentle, mesmerizing rhythm. The exotic islands like Koh Rong, the Cardamom Mountains, and Bokor National Park offer serenity, adventure, and scenic diversity that few countries can match.
Exceptional Guides and Accommodations
Our experience was elevated by the dedication of our local guide and team, whose knowledge and passion made the trip seamless and deeply enriching. And accommodations? Simply outstanding. The Zannier Phum Baitang hotel provided unmatched luxury and comfort. If 10 stars were possible, it would get them all.
