Reykjavik (Art & Amusement day)

Breakfast is served from 7:00 am at the hotel restaurant. Today we visit The Icelandic Phallological Museum: more than 200 penises & penile parts representing almost all Icelandic land & sea mammals. Continue with TheReykjavik Art museum Hafnarhus . The museum exhibits work from leading Icelandic and international artists in Modern and Contemporary Art. It is also a platform for emerging talents. The exhibitions at Reykjavík Art Museum span history to our present day. Cross the street for a visit to the Reykjavik Museum of Photography, this museum preserves about five million photographs by professional and amateur photographers, from around 1870 to the present century. The collection includes studio portraits, and industrial, advertising, press, landscape and family photographs.

Before lunch, we venture to Fly over Iceland:  Be ready for the ride of your life, this is an attraction with motion seating & a wraparound screen, simulating flight over mountains & glaciers.

Lunch at LA PRIMAVERA: If you’ve never heard of Icelandic/Italian fusion, you’re not the only one. But let us be the first to tell you that this combo is divine. Salt cod adds Icelandic flavor to Italian dishes like tagliatelle with chorizo and pine nuts, and the sleek, minimalist design of the restaurant reminds you that you’re still in Reykjavik, not Italy.

This afternoon we visit the Living art Museum at the Marshall house. Living Art Museum is a not-for-profit, artist-run exhibition platform for innovative and experimental contemporary art. Kling and Bang Gallery is a nonprofit gallery featuring contemporary works from emerging & established, local & global artists. We make a quick stop at KIOSK for a glimpse of contemporary Icelandic fashion design. Visit the Reykjavik art museum Kjarvalsstadir, it houses the works of one of Iceland’s most influential and recognised artists, Jóhannes S. Kjarval. The exhibitions at Kjarvalsstaðir focus primarily on paintings and sculptures of the established masters of modern art. The building is a fine example of Nordic modernism.

Vik ⇾ Glacier Lagoon

Today we venture to Skaftafell and Jokulsarlon, may very well be the highlight of our trip. Skaftafell is a part of the biggest National Park in Iceland and offers unbelievable scenery. Jokulsarlon is a huge lagoon with floating icebergs, the brave can take a boat trip to get close to the icebergs. The canyon is about 2 km long and is about 100 meters deep. There is a hiking trail that follows the edges and gives you a beautiful view over the canyon. The various glacial tongues are flanked by jagged mountains, with the glacier-topped peak of Hvannadalshnjukur rising highest, or up 6921 ft, making it the highest point of Iceland.

Lunch at Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon. Zodiac ride - Boat ride on the ice lagoon. This is the perfect place to experience unspoiled nature and unique environment where huge icebergs calve off the largest glacier in Europe, the greatVatnajokull, and float around the lagoon in all shapes and colors.

Jokulsarlon lagoon and Diamond Beach: Jokulsarlon is a huge lagoon with floating icebergs, but in winter it often freezes over. Unlike a lake, a lagoon is a body of water that is connected to the ocean. As the icebergs exit the narrow channel at the mouth of the lagoon – a process that takes some time as the tides push them back in as well as draw them out, they break down further and eventually, they get swept out to sea or pushed up onto Diamond Beach. The beach is called Breiðamerkursandur, but the nickname Diamond Beach stuck, and for an obvious reason.

Return to Vik (dinner on your own at hotel or in town)

Vik ⇾ Reykjavik

Hotel check out. Make sure to have a daypack with your swimsuit for the Blue Lagoon. We will enjoy a Geologist talk and live demonstration of volcanic eruptions and lava flow. This is the only place in the world where you can safely experience hot molten lava in close proximity! The spectacle recreates a volcano eruption, similar to what Eyjafjallajökull and Katla volcano are famous for, by pouring molten lava (1100°C / 2000°F) into the showroom and over ice. It is an epic battle between the elements and a unique opportunity to get close to red-hot lava, see it flowing, hear it sizzling, and feel the intense heat that radiates from it.

Depart for the small town of Stokkseyri. Lunch: Lobster feast in a seaside restaurant. After lunch, we continue to the iconic Blue Lagoon. These waters are rich in minerals that are meant to have healing powers for your skin. The Blue lagoon is something you may only experience once in a lifetime, so dip in and enjoy the hot water and white mud on your skin. Your premium package at the Spa includes, robes, slippers, towels, a free drink at the in-lagoon bar (alcohol as well as smoothies) and three different face masks. We will allow for 1.5 hr. for you to soak in the radiant powers of geothermal seawater. Depart for Reykjavik. Check in at Canopy hotel.

Farewell dinner at Sjavargrillid Seafood Grill: Sjávargrillið was founded in the summer of 2011 by young chef Gústav Axel Gunnlaugsson and master chef/owner Lárus Gunnar Jónasson. While travelling the country looking for the real taste of Iceland, they found their inspiration for the menu and were able to collect decorative items for the restaurant along the way.
